A Trip to OKC - Lush! Museums! Food!

A couple of weeks ago my husband and I spent a Friday in Oklahoma City. I had some free time off of work and after life being particularly cruel to us the last few months, we wanted to get away. We do not have a Lush here in Tulsa but there is one in Oklahoma City and I have been chomping at the bit (there's an Oklahoma term for you!) to go. We also planned to see a few museums, but only ended up going to the Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum. We underestimated how long it would take to go through the museum (especially when I want to look at every single thing.) Shawn had been years ago but this was the first time I had ever been. I love museums and this one is wonderful.
This picture does not do this statue justice as far as its size. It is enormous.

Kitty! Another huge marble statue. I wanted to get up on it and ride it but the security guard frowned on that.

I was so excited about the cat shadow in the window.

The above picture is from the old town that you can walk through in the museum. You are able to go in some of the buildings and they have all of the old furniture, tools, etc that would be there in olden days. The photo studio had a neat display of cameras from the very first ones created up to a camera phone (which I found quite humorous.) There was also a guard dressed in western wear that would sit outside the marshall office and occasionally move to the saloon.

There were some amazing western art on display and we ended up buying a print of one of the paintings that Shawn loved. I'm not the biggest fan of western art and cowboy stuff but the talent behind these paintings is incredible. There were some oil paintings that looked like photos until you got up close and saw the texture of the paint.

All in all, it was a great trip to the museum. I recommend checking it out if you are ever in the OKC area.

I went to Lush before we went to the museum. Shawn was not exactly excited about going to Lush and I promised him I wouldn't be in there for hours. I had a few things I wanted to look at and then of course I just wanted to take everything in. Everyone working there was very nice (which I hope they would be seeing as their job is to sell products) and very helpful. They also made my day by letting me know that there are rumors of a Lush coming to Tulsa in 2014. Hooray! I did pick up a few things that I have listed below.

Mask of Magnaminty - I had intended to get a fresh face mask since you aren't able to get them online but when I smelled this one I was sold. This reminds me alot of Queen Helene's Mint Julep mask that I have used for years with the addition of little scrubby bean particles. I love the tingly sensation from the peppermint and my face feels clean and refreshed after using this mask.

Whoosh Shower Jelly - I was unsure about the shower jellies until I got Party On online and fell in love. I wanted to check out another one and had thought about getting this one online but was unsure of the scent. Well, let me tell you, this smells fabulous. Its citrusy without being too strong and gives the feeling of being super clean. I do think that Party On is still my favorite but Whoosh is still great.

Jumping Juniper Solid Shampoo Bar - I spoke to the girl at the store about which shampoo bar would be the best for my hair. She said for my fine, oily scalped hair I could use a couple of different things and I ended up with the Jumping Juniper bar, mostly because my other two choices smelled like old soap. I was very excited about trying the shampoo bar and had heard tons of great stuff about it. The bar is very clarifying and cut all of the oil out of my hair. So much so that I think if I used it regularly it would dry my hair out too much. Thankfully I always keep a clarifying shampoo on hand and I think I have found my new favorite one. I have used it several times and it doesn't even appear to be used so it should last a long time.

Phoenix Rising Bath Bomb - I have not used this bath bomb or the bubble bar below yet. I always hold on to them for awhile until the perfect time. That and the bathtub in our house sucks so much. Its tiny and I have some issues fitting in it. I'm 5'10" and most of that is legs and submerging my entire body is impossible. My mother in law has a huge garden tub that I will occasionally use and I like to wait for those times to use my bath bombs. I picked out this one for the color mostly. I can only imagine how gorgeous this will be. When I finally get around to using it I will have to take a few photos.

Sunny Side Bubble Bar -  I have not used one of Lush's bubble bars yet but I imagine it is just as wonderful as any other product I've purchased. It's not hard to see why I picked this one...it's covered in glitter! I honestly didn't even care about the smell I was so enthralled with the glitter. I'll photograph this one as soon as I use it as well.

Shampoo Bar Tin - This was one of those things that I didn't need, but at 3.95 I couldn't really say no given my obsession with containers. I'm glad that I did get this tin because it looks nice in the shower and works alot better than the plastic baggy or old plastic bowl that I would have stored the shampoo bar in.

Before we came back home we stopped at Deep Fork Grill, a seafood restaurant in OKC. It was a little pricey but so delicious! We had the best crab cakes we've both ever eaten. I had blackened catfish for dinner and the greatest mashed potatos I have ever had in my life. I would drive to OKC right now to get some more of those mashed potatos!

All in all it was a pretty great day. We, unfortunately, were met with alot of awfulness when we got home but for most of the day we were happy and entertained.  I can't wait for our next trip to OKC, I want to visit the science museum and the great outlet malls that I've heard so much about.
